Understanding the Differences

Utility Vehicles/Side by Sides have become some of the most versatile and useful tools on any large property, farm operation and worksite. From hauling mulch & dirt to tools and supplies, to climbing hilly off-road terrain to get to your favorite tree-stand, they have the ability to perform multiple tasks with ease. With all the specific models that John Deere offers, there are a lot of differences to take into consideration. Let’s look at the XUV Mid & Full Sized Gators and some of the main differences between the models. From the XUV560E & XUV590E & M Series to the larger XUV835, XUV865 E, M & R.

First we will take a look at the Mid-Sized Gator Models and some of the features they offer.



The XUV560E starts off the Mid-Sized Gator Line-Up
• Comes equipped with a Gas Carbureted 16HP/570cc Air Cooled engine
• 28 mph top speed.
• 4.9 Gallon Fuel Tank
• 800lbs Payload Capacity with 1500lbs Towing Capacity
• Independent 4 Wheel Adjustable Suspension w/8” of Travel
• 4 Wheel Drive and Rear Diff Lock with Electronic Selection from the operator dash
• “S4” 4 Passenger Seat Models available with 1300lbs payload and 1500lbs towing



The XUV590E & M comes next
• Comes equipped with a Gas 32HP/586cc Fuel Injected, Liquid Cooled engine
• 48 mph top speed
• 7.4 Gallon Fuel Tank for more time between fill-ups
• Power Steering available on the M Series, E Series is Manual Steering
• More options available with Color, Tires and Trim Packages
S4 Models available

Next size up we take a look into the Full-Sized John Deere Gator Models. Adding more capability and features to the Gator Line-Up. When it comes to the Full-Sized Models there are two main model designations, the XUV835E, M & R and the XUV865M & R with one being Gas and the other Diesel. Two specific S4 options are available as well. Let’s take a look at them.



XUV835E, M & R starts us off.
• A Gas 54hp/812cc Liquid Cooled, Fuel Injected engine
• 45 mph Top Speed
• Independent 4 Wheel Adjustable Suspension w/8” of Travel
• Standard Power Steering on M & R Series
• 11.2 Gallon Fuel Tank allowing you to run longer and less time spent filling up
• 1500lbs Payload Capacity and an impressive maximum of up to 4000lbs Towing Capacity
• 3 Passenger Seating with operator & passenger comfort in mind
• Factory installed heat and air conditioning Cab Options available on M & R Series
• Intuitive Automotive Style Operator Station Controls conveniently located on the dash



The XUV865M & R comes right in line with capability with the previous mentioned with only a few minor changes to specifications.
• A 22.8hp/854cc Liquid Cooled Diesel engine
• Top Speed of 32 mph
• Only available in M and R Series. No Base “non power-steering” E Series available 



4 Seat Models are available in the Full-Sized Gator line-up. These models are the XUV825M S4 Gas and the XUV855M S4 Diesel.
• Comes in a 50hp/812cc Fuel Injected engine or 22.8hp/854cc Diesel Engine.
• 45 mph Top Speed for the gas model and 32 mph for the diesel model
• Payload Capacity of 1305 lbs and Towing Capacity of 1500 lbs
• 7.3 Gallon fuel capacity
• Power Steering Standard on both models
• Front & Rear bench seating for 4 passenger comfort
