Fuel prices are at all-time highs, protect your investment and equipment with a few tips from our technicians. We asked our technicians what can be done to prevent fuel-related downtime and what they do to keep their own equipment running at peak efficiency.

Run Fuel Protect Conditioner in every gallon of diesel. The quality of fuel is inconsistent and not what it used to be, especially ultra-low sulfur diesel. Fuel Protect boosts cetane, cleans injectors, and lubricates to reduce pump and injector wear. 1 gallon of Fuel Protect (TY27723) treats 1,424 gallons of fuel.

Run Fuel Protect Keep Clean Annually to clean and break up deposits in your system. Once a year, mix a cleaning rate of Keep Clean into your fuel tank. If you have a 30 Series Tractor with a 6.8L engine, our technicians recommend you run the maintenance rate of Keep Clean in your fuel year-round. 1 gallon of Keep Clean (TY26828) treats 1,280 gallons at the maintenance rate or 640 gallons at the cleaning rate. Keep Clean can be mixed with Fuel Protect Conditioner.

Switch to Winter Blend Fuel Protect Conditioner at 45 degrees to minimize cold starting issues. Waiting until the temperatures are freezing is too late. When the average temperature hits 45, you should be changing from normal Fuel Protect to the winter blend. 1 gallon of Fuel Protect Winter Blend (TY27726) treats 416 gallons of fuel.

Treat Your Fuel In Bulk to ensure consistent treatment across your fleet and minimize issues with transfer tanks.

Add a Fuel Filter to your Bulk Tanks, you cannot rely on the fuel company to filter your fuel. Minimize machine fuel filter issues by filtering fuel from your bulk tanks. For another layer of protection, add filters to your transfer tanks when fueling up in the field. Filters slow down fuel transfer rates but eliminate costly downtime in the field.

Run FuelSaver Antimicrobial Agent with Biodiesel or when water gets into your fuel tanks. Keep microbial growth at bay in Biodiesel or shock treat contaminated fuel with Fuel Saver. Available in 32 oz (PM70101403), mix according to label.

Keep Your Tanks Full to eliminate air space and reduce condensation. Condensation introduces water to your fuel, especially common during fall harvest with big changes in daytime and nighttime temperatures. Fill your tank before heading home to minimize headspace in the tank.

Secure Your Fuel by parking your equipment in secure locations or hiding it from sight. With high diesel prices, theft prevention should be a high priority. Locking fuel caps are available for most models of equipment but thieves can bypass locks or drill holes in tanks to drain them. Securing your equipment, especially harvesters, is the only way to absolutely protect your fuel and tanks.
